
This Juneteenth weekend Indianapolis had several celebrations for the new National Holiday. There were several organizations that participated this year. The Madam Walker Legacy Center had a block party tent that had many artist from all over the Indiana area performing on stage. Â
The Madam Walker Legacy Center is one of the last surviving iconic building on Indiana Avenue, the Madam Walker Legacy Center is a significant piece of our nation’s history and is listed on the register of National Historic Landmarks. This organization continues to serve as an enduring symbol of not only African-American pride and achievement but also pride for women and quite frankly, all citizens of the world by perpetuating the legacy of our nation’s first self-made woman millionaire.Â

Another organization that was present and there for the cause was Biketeenth group. Biketeenth is a health initiative that exists to unify the Black collective in commemoration of the Juneteenth holiday in. Their founders are Cassandra Smith-Johnson and Antawan Mack. Proceeds collected go to organizations creating access to resources essential to the physical, mental and educational development of children in underserved communities.
