The Passion, The Talent, The Mother

My name is Porshay Stegall.  I was given the name “Angel” by those who love me.

I use the name “Angel” as my stage name in the modeling business.  I was once googled, followed and harassed by a “so-called” fan.  It was really scary. I would hate to see how this person treats someone they don’t like.  This person took “follow me on twitter” to the next level and was following me on the streets in Indy.

Zumba!!! I have danced all my life.  It all started with being woke up to show the latest moves for my mom and dad’s friends at our house parties during the holidays. We all had to bust a move or two for our elders growing up, so I know I am not the only one.  But dancing stuck with me.

Growing up, I did “praise dance” in church.  I also performed with the drill team and the dance team in school.  I was even on the Geno Shelton Show way back when.  It was here in Indy and kids could come dance on camera like they were on soul train.

As an adult, I have worked mostly with children that come from low income families.  So I began to teach a dance fitness class through IPS schools.  During the summer programs, I went on to work for other privately owned dance services for kids teaching hip hop, dance ballet and fitness. Three years ago, I went to Zumba at Lifetime Fitness and fell in love with dance all over again.

I had been looking for a way to branch out my own teaching and became a certified Zumba Instructor.  Now under the Zumba logo, I am owner of Zumbalishus Fitness.  I offer group classes to businesses for their employees, private home Zumba parties and also teach in a gym setting. It allows me the freedom to keep my body tight while helping others who may need more creativity or support in a workout.

I have been told many times that I am funny.  I can get a crowd formed around me in the grocery store line making jokes about a price check.  So I was like, “Am I really that funny?”  So I went to Morty’s Comedy Joint almost two years ago and went on stage during the open mic night. I won the competition just by talking about my week even though I had no real material.

I was invited back and I won again.  On my third performance, I won satellite air time to perform comedy.  I am still gathering material for that.

I left my full time job to follow my passion in life which is health and helping people. So I am employed full-time by me, myself, and I, as well as my children and my fiancee.

I have a lot going on this year as we begin planning our wedding.  Our adoption of two 5-year old daughters will be finalized this year and I also have two teen children of my own.

So really, between my family, my comedy and my Fitness Zumba business, it’s like I have two full time jobs!

I have also been modeling part-time since I was 18.  It only involves a little traveling.  I took a break from it to be devoted to my two children and family.  I passed up opportunities in other cities in order to provide stability, here in Indy, for my children.  Just recently, however, I have been doing some commercials for Radio One as well as some voice-overs and print work for local businesses.

I have arrived at the conclusion that I am not on this earth just to work 9 to 5 every day.  I am “busting out at the seams” with life and I want to share it with others.  I believe that making others laugh is a way of healing them.  I believe motivating someone to be healthy and fit by using their body is porshay 2also a way of helping them.  It can be hard to follow your calling and I have found my place.  Now, I have to share it with the world.  My purpose in life is bigger than me.

Personally, my biggest motivation is my family and my soul mate Michael.   My career allows me to be close and supportive of my family, to provide for them and to motivate them.  Now I have a partner in crime who is also my partner in life.  My grandmother, Mrs. Snell, told me “A lady never looks for a man; instead, he should look for her.”  She was right and that has come true for me.

I would like to recognize Michael for serving our country and helping keep us safe.  Now, he is home safe with me. He is also my biggest supporter.  He genuinely gets me and my goals and he understands my background, so that allows him to love me the way I need to be loved.

He also helps me write my material and is my personal body guard.  He is also into fitness so we work out together.  We even share all the household duties.  I know… pinch me, right…I must be dreaming.  But, this is my real life. Thank you Michael!
