Most people that give advice add their 2 cents to situations that they have never experienced personally. Advice expert Cheyenne Bostock does not have that problem as he has lived a life that has been filled with low points and highlights. The Texas Wesleyan University graduate was not only unable to find employment, but he was also unfortunate in finding a permanent residence as he lived in a homeless shelter. The outward look at his living situation influenced his decision to take notice of his self and completely change his life for the better by hiring himself. As his own boss, he has become in charge of an empire as a writer/blogger, motivational speaker, and life/relationship coach.

AMPS — Where were you born and raised?
Cheyenne- I was born in Brooklyn, New York and I moved around quite a bit. I’ve lived in New Jersey, Atlanta, Texas, and after I graduated from West Texas A&M University in 2008, I moved back to Brooklyn, New York where I currently reside now.

AMPS – So, you are a life/relationship expert and an author correct?
Cheyenne- Yes.

AMPS – How is your family handling this new person that you’ve become and do they support you?
Cheyenne- My family has always been supportive of me and this isn’t a new person that I’ve become this is the person that I’ve always been and they have been waiting to watch me flourish. They have been waiting to see me on this level and they support my move; they are very proud of me. They come out and support my events and they promote my books for me.

AMPS – What advice would you give someone who’s out there struggling, going through what you’ve gone through?
Cheyenne- I believe everyone will eventually hit their rock bottom and when they hit their rock bottom they need to find their inner strength to get back up and stay up, and sometimes when we haven’t personality experienced that rock bottom we take people, life, resources and time for granted. But when you fall to the ground so hard that it hurt and it hurt you bad. You will get to a point that you never want to experience again, you never want to feel that way again. So you put value on the people around you on the resources that you have, it’s simply about finding that inner strength, that inner voice, that sense of Faith, that sense of hope that’s going to keep you in all the days of your life.

AMPS – I see you have a new book out that you are promoting. Can you tell us the name of that book?
Cheyenne- Yes, I’m the author and the name of my new book is called, Sex and Piece of Mind: What A Woman Needs To Know To Keep A Man. I’m doing a lot of events based around relationships like relationship panels, social mixing, speed dating, workshop seminars, and the whole purpose of these events is to have happier, healthier relationships and one of the things that I’ve noticed in the Black community is that we don’t really talk about relationships; we don’t engage with one another. I want to open the doors of conversation and create these events so that we can come out and enjoy our self and learn something along the way.

AMPS – Have you always been a reader?
Cheyenne- No, I have never been a reader and I was never a writer and it wasn’t until I got into the homeless shelter that I stared reading. I had nothing but time on my hands so every morning we had to be out by 7 AM to go apply to jobs or whatever we wanted to do, so what I choose to do with my time was to go to Barnes and Nobles and read different types of books. I had gotten so used to reading that I would read books in one setting, even two books a day sometimes and that motivated me I would read books on psychology, on relationships, health, body language and all these different things that would help me in the direction that I was planning on going and I started to write about things that I was going through about things that I was learning, and focus it on business, life, and relationships. That is how my blog started just from my writing I didn’t know it was going to be a blog. I didn’t know that could turn into a book. I was just simply writing from the heart because I was in an emotional place and I needed some place to focus and place those feelings.
AMPS – I see where you had a book signing here in Dallas back in February. How did that go for you?
Cheyenne- It was great. I am so happy that Dallas showed up and showed out. They came and they supported my book and we had a live Q&A with the ladies asking questions about relationships and I would give them open and honest answers; I think everyone had a great time. We also got a lot of networking in there and that’s what I wanted to get them to take away from me at the event and I’m hoping my guests were able to take that away from the event as well.

AMPS – Can you tell us what type of environment did you grow up in as a child?
Cheyenne- I grew up with a wonderful family. I have four brothers, a step-brother, and one sister. My mom and step-father raised me and we were all brought up in the church, great education, pretty good neighborhood. It was great having that good support system around you, brothers and sisters to play with and learn from, and that’s something that helped shaped me into the man that I am today.

AMPS — Ok, Cheyenne as you got older somehow you ended up in a homeless shelter and no job. Will you share with us how that happened?
Cheyenne- Most defiantly, I was living in a homeless shelter in 2011 and I didn’t know where my life was headed. I didn’t know what I wanted to do career wise or on any other level and while living in that homeless shelter. I was able to see something that I hadn’t been able to identify with for years, and that’s myself. I was able to eliminate myself from the noise around me because I was in a place that I was unfamiliar with, the people there and they were unfamiliar with me. I didn’t have anyone emotionally connected to me there and all I had was myself, and that’s when I had to connect with a higher power, because the power that I had in me wasn’t working. So I decided to do something that I hadn’t done all my life and that’s listen to God, and God told me well at first I was trying to get myself out of the homeless shelter I would apply to one hundred different jobs a day just to try to get some type of income coming in. Then God spoke to me and said maybe it’s time for you to stop looking for people to hiring you and starting looking to do the hiring, and I said you know what that’s a great idea but how? Then he spoke to me and said you should give your time to a nonprofit organization, and I said I don’t have time to be giving my time, my energy, myself to a nonprofit organization. I have no money, I have no job, I have no good sense of direction, and I stopped and said to myself maybe this is what got me into the homeless shelter in the first place. So I went to a nonprofit organization and I filled out a volunteer application and along with that I submitted my resume with that application. When they saw my resume, they hired me full time, and what I took from that was, I was like wow is this what God was trying to show me all along that when I give my time and I have a great heart and attitude about giving service, I get blessed? And I said wow, I’m going to carry this with me all the days of my life, and since I’ve applied that principle, my network, my relationship with my family, and my relationship with people have expanded so much.
