Last night Mr. Babyface Edmonds performed at the Indiana State Fair. The fair will be running from August 1-17, 2025. 
Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds is a name synonymous with smooth R&B, timeless love ballads, and masterful songwriting. He began writing songs as a teenager and joined several local bands, including Manchild, where he met Daryl Simmons—his future writing partner. His nickname “Babyface” was given by funk artist Bootsy Collins, who noted his youthful appearance.
Babyface’s career took off in the 1980s when he teamed up with L.A. Reid to form the R&B group The Deele. However, it was their behind-the-scenes work as songwriters and producers that truly launched their careers. In 1989, they co-founded LaFace Records, signing and developing future stars like Toni Braxton, Usher, TLC, and OutKast. Babyface’s writing and production credits include some of the biggest hits of the ’90s, such as Boyz II Men’s “End of the Road,” Whitney Houston’s “Exhale (Shoop Shoop),” and Madonna’s “Take a Bow.”
As a solo artist, Babyface also made a significant impact. His albums Tender Lover (1989), For the Cool in You (1993), and The Day (1996) showcased his signature sound: lush melodies, romantic lyrics, and smooth vocals. He won numerous Grammy Awards and remains one of the most awarded songwriters in history.
Today, Babyface continues to be a relevant and respected figure in music. He collaborates with contemporary artists like Ariana Grande, Ella Mai, and Lucky Daye, showing that his ear for talent and timeless melodies remains as sharp as ever. In 2022, he released Girls Night Out, an album featuring duets with rising female R&B artists, proving his commitment to lifting the next generation.
