50 &#8211; Post Game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With their victory in Super Bowl 50, the Broncos are the ninth franchise to win as many as three Super Bowl championships.\u00a0 This was the eighth Super Bowl appearance for the Broncos, matching the record also shared by the Patriots, Steelers and Cowboys.<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>VON MILLER<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The second overall selection in the 2011 draft, Miller became the 10th defensive player in Super Bowl history to be selected as the Super Bowl MVP by harassing the first overall pick in that draft, quarterback Cam Newton of the Panthers.\u00a0 Miller had 2.5 sacks, 6 total tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 2 hurries and a pass defensed.\u00a0 The other three linebackers to be chosen Super Bowl MVP are Chuck Howley of the Cowboys (Super Bowl V), Ray Lewis of the Ravens (Super Bowl XXXV) and Malcolm Smith of the Seahawks (Super Bowl XLVIII).<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>PEYTON MANNING\u00a0<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p>With his victory in Super Bowl 50, Peyton Manning, at age 39, becomes the oldest starting quarterback to win a <a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ampsmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/sb-50-reader00_00_15_26st.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-907 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ampsmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/sb-50-reader00_00_15_26st-300x169.jpg?resize=300%2C169\" alt=\"sb-50-reader00_00_15_26st\" eclipses the previous record held by Broncos GM John Elway who was 38 when he won Super Bowl XXXIII to complete the 1998 season.<\/p>\n<p>Manning also becomes the first quarterback to start and win Super Bowls for two different teams.\u00a0 He also won Super Bowl XLI (2006 season) for the Indianapolis Colts.\u00a0 He is the third quarterback to start for two teams, joining Kurt Warner (Rams, Cardinals) and Craig Morton (Cowboys, Broncos).<\/p>\n<p>With the win, Manning became the first NFL quarterback with 200 career wins (186 regular season and 14 postseason).\u00a0 He had been tied with Brett Favre, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2016, with 199.<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>RECORDS<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The 61-yard punt return of Jordan Norwood in the second quarter was the longest in Super Bowl history.\u00a0 John Taylor of the 49ers had held the mark since Super Bowl XXIII with a return of 45 yards.<\/p>\n<p>The Broncos tied the Super Bowl record by recording seven sacks in today\u2019s game.\u00a0 It\u00a0 was officially set by the Bears in Super Bowl XX (1985 season) but the Steelers are also credited with seven sacks in Super Bowl X (1975 season) before sacks became an official statistic in 1982.<\/p>\n<p>Although it was the Broncos with seven sacks, it was a member of the Panthers, Kony Ealy, who tied the individual sack record with three sacks.\u00a0 He now shares the mark with Reggie White of the Packers in Super Bowl XXXI and Darnell Dockett of the Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII.<\/p>\n<p>Ealy also became the first player in Super Bowl history to record multiple sacks and an interception in the same game.\u00a0 He is the first player since Leslie O\u2019Neal of the Chargers (1\/2\/93 vs. Kansas City) with multiple sacks, an interception and a forced fumble in a postseason game.<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>OTHER NOTES<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p>With Denver`s win today, the teams wearing white jerseys have won 11 of the last 12 Super Bowl games.\u00a0 It is a run that began with the Patriots win over the Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX (the Packers in Super Bowl XLV are the exception).<\/p>\n<p>Teams scoring first are now 34-16 in the Super Bowl as the Broncos started the scoring with a field goal.<\/p>\n<p>Denver\u2019s victory extends the NFC\u2019s lead in Super Bowl play to 26-24.<\/p>\n<p>The Panthers had trailed at halftime only twice in 18 previous games this season, and on both previous occasions by just three points.\u00a0 The six-point halftime deficit was their biggest of the year.<\/p>\n<p>The Broncos set an NFL record (for an extended season) with 11 wins by 7 or fewer points.\u00a0 Their 14-point margin in Super Bowl 50 equaled their second-largest of the season (vs. Green Bay +19, at San Diego +14).<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>BRONCOS NOTES<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Broncos gained only 194 yards in today\u2019s win, the fewest for a victorious team in a Super Bowl.\u00a0 The previous low was 244 yards by the Ravens in their win over the Giants in Super Bowl XXXV.<\/p>\n<p>The Broncos were the sixth team to win a Super Bowl without throwing a touchdown pass.\u00a0 The Broncos, in Super Bowl XXXII, the first of John Elway\u2019s two Super Bowl champions, were the last team to do so.<\/p>\n<p>Peyton Manning\u2019s 141 passing yards represent the second-lowest total of his 27 postseason games.\u00a0 He had 137 in a loss for Indianapolis to the Jets in a Wild Card game on January 4, 2003.<\/p>\n<p>Manning\u2019s final numbers for this postseason \u2013 51 of 92 (55.4%), 2 TDs, 1 INT, 75.4 passer rating.<\/p>\n<p>If this is the final postseason game of for Manning, he will end it second to Tom Brady (7,957) in career postseason passing yards with 7,339.\u00a0 Manning is also second to Brady with 649 postseason completions and 1,027 pass attempts.\u00a0 He is 4<sup>th<\/sup> behind Brady, Joe Montana and Brett Favre with 40 passing TDs.<\/p>\n<p>Manning wins his second Super Bowl championship nine years after his first for the Colts in Super Bowl XLI.\u00a0 Only Tom Brady, XXXIX and XLIX, had a longer gap as a QB with 11 years.<\/p>\n<p>Von Miller was the first player drafted by John Elway when he became Executive VP of Football Operations in 2011 (now Exec VP of Football Ops\/GM).<\/p>\n<p>Elway is the first Super Bowl-winning QB to also win a Super Bowl ring as a GM.<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>GARY KUBIAK<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Kubiak became the first coach to win a Super Bowl for the same team for which he was rostered as a player in the Super Bowl.\u00a0 He joins Tom Flores (Raiders) and Mike Ditka (Bears) as the third coach to win the Super Bowl as a head coach for a team he played for.<\/p>\n<p>Kubiak became the fourth coach to win a Super Bowl in his first year as the head coach of that team.\u00a0 The most recent was Jon Gruden of the Buccaneers in Super Bowl XXXVIII.\u00a0 The others are Don McCaffrey of the Colts in Super Bowl V and George Seifert of the 49ers (over the Broncos) in Super Bowl XXIV.<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>PANTHERS NOTES<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Panthers were held to 10 points, their lowest total of a season in which they led the NFL in scoring.\u00a0 They had reached 20 points in all but one of their 18 games (13 in their lone regular season loss to Atlanta in Week 16).<\/p>\n<p>The seven sacks suffered by the Panthers in Super Bowl 50 (six of Cam Newton, one of Ted Ginn, Jr.) were the most they had allowed this season.\u00a0 So, too, were the four turnovers.<\/p>\n<p>The Panthers did extend their streak of consecutive games with 100+ yards rushing to 32 (regular season plus postseason).<\/p>\n<p>The Panthers failed in their bid to join the 49ers (Super Bowl XXI) and Bears (Super Bowl XX) as teams that won the Super Bowl with an 18-1 record.\u00a0 The Patriots in the 2007 season, also ended with an 18-1 record after their loss in Super Bowl XLII.\u00a0 The Panthers are one of eight teams to go 17-2, plus the 17-0
