While other festivals often rely on one superstar to draw a crowd, Cincinnati’s strength has always been its carefully curated lineup that celebrates every era of Black music.<\/p>\n

Thursday: Hip-Hop Opens the Weekend<\/h3>\n

The festival kicked off with an energetic hip-hop block party that honored the genre’s pioneers while celebrating its continued influence on today’s music. Legendary lyricist Talib Kweli<\/strong>, along with DJ Spinderella<\/strong>, Hi-Tek<\/strong>, and DJ Vader<\/strong>, transformed the stadium into a celebration of beats, lyricism, and culture.<\/p>\n

Having members of the Wilder family present\u2014and the founders’ daughters performing alongside the band\u2014created one of the weekend’s most emotional moments. Although many believed Mary J. Blige would close the festival, Trey Songz<\/strong> delivered the final performance of the weekend.<\/p>\n

Despite some fans leaving after Blige’s set, those who remained were rewarded with a polished performance featuring “Neighbors Know My Name,” “Heart Attack,” “Love Faces,” “Dive In,” and “Bottoms Up.”<\/p>\n
