The annual event is the culmination of the HBOB program, and provides a national platform to highlight a key element in the HBCU community and campus life \u2013 the marching band. The invitational showcase will feature extraordinary musicianship, sport and choreography from eight HBCU marching bands and dance squads who are ready to electrify the city of Atlanta.<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2624 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ampsmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC_0866-300x200.jpg?resize=368%2C245\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ampsmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC_0866.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ampsmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC_0866.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ampsmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC_0866.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ampsmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC_0866.jpg?w=1392&amp;ssl=1 1392w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ampsmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSC_0866.jpg?w=2088&amp;ssl=1 2088w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With a mix of six HBOB veteran bands and two newcomers, the eight bands slated to perform at the 2018 HBOB Invitational Showcase include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Alabama A&amp;M University<\/strong>, Marching Maroon &amp; White Band (Southwestern Athletic Conference) \u2013 fifth appearance<\/li>\n<li><strong>Alabama State University<\/strong>, Mighty Marching Hornets (Southwestern Athletic Conference) \u2013 sixth appearance<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bethune-Cookman University<\/strong>, Marching Wildcats (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) \u2013 13th appearance<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hampton University<\/strong>, The Marching Force (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) \u2013 first appearance<\/li>\n<li><strong>Miles College<\/strong>, Purple Marching Machine (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) \u2013 first appearance<\/li>\n<li><strong>North Carolina A&amp;T State University<\/strong>, Blue &amp; Gold Marching Machine (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) \u2013 sixth appearance<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prairie View A&amp;M University<\/strong>, Marching Storm (Southwestern Athletic Conference) \u2013 eighth appearance<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tennessee State University<\/strong>, Aristocrat of Bands (Ohio Valley Athletic Conference) \u2013 eighth appearance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Honda invited all HBCU marching bands to participate in this year\u2019s program. Of the 39 bands that elected to participate, the \u201cfinal eight\u201d bands were selected through a voting process that incorporates input from online fans, band directors, HBCU school presidents and representatives from American Honda. In addition to a $20,000 grant from Honda to support their music education program, each of the final eight bands will receive an all-expenses paid trip to the Invitational Showcase.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Honda Battle of the Bands exists to celebrate, support and recognize the excellence of HBCU marching bands by shedding a public light on a hallmark of HBCU culture,\u201d said Steve Morikawa, Vice President, Corporate Relations &amp; Social Responsibility for American Honda. \u201cThe Invitational Showcase is a chance for thousands of talented young musicians to show off their teamwork and dedication with highly anticipated performances in front of a captive community of supporters. Students, alumni and fans are invited to nominate extraordinary individuals taking action and moving their HBCU communities forward.
