{"id":2566,"date":"2017-11-19T06:36:21","date_gmt":"2017-11-19T06:36:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ampsmagazine.com\/?p=2566"},"modified":"2021-04-02T00:09:58","modified_gmt":"2021-04-02T00:09:58","slug":"bethune-cookman-wins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ampsmagazine.com\/?p=2566","title":{"rendered":"Bethune-Cookman Wins over Florida A&#038;M in 30th Anniversary Classic Game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ORLANDO, Fla.<\/strong>\u00a0<em>\u2013\u00a0<\/em>Make that a seventh win in a row for Bethune-Cookman Football against Florida A&amp;M.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bcugridiron\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2573 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ampsmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/dkvHXWo0_400x400-300x300.jpg?resize=209%2C209\" alt=\"\" width=\"209\" height=\"209\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ampsmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/dkvHXWo0_400x400.jpg?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ampsmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/dkvHXWo0_400x400.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ampsmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/dkvHXWo0_400x400.jpg?w=400&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 209px) 100vw, 209px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bcuathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=1790\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"1790\">Larry Brihm, Jr.<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0rushed for a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns, including the go-ahead touchdown on a two-yard naked bootleg with 1:15 remaining as Bethune-Cookman rallied for a <span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><strong>29-24<\/strong> <\/span>come-from-behind victory over Florida A&amp;M in the\u00a0<em>Florida Blue Florida Classic<\/em>\u00a0before a Camping World Stadium crowd of 47,819 and a national ESPN audience.<\/p>\n<p>The redshirt senior quarterback concluded his career by manufacturing a 14-point fourth quarter comeback to deliver the Wildcats&#8217; seventh\u00a0consecutive victory in the series and conclude Bethune-Cookman&#8217;s 2017 campaign at 7-4 (6-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).<\/p>\n<p>Brihm finished with 280 yards and one touchdown passing in addition to the two rushing touchdowns.<\/p>\n<p>Florida A&amp;M (3-8, 2-6 MEAC) outgained the Wildcats 136-8 as they took a 24-10 lead on Ricky Henrilus&#8217; 4-yard run and Devin Powers&#8217; 8-yarder to start the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Bethune-Cookman quickly closed to within one touchdown with a 9-play, 52-yard drive that produced Brihm&#8217;s 5-yarder with 11:27 left. Completions of 15 yards to\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bcuathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=1812\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"1812\">Frank Brown<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0and 20 yards to\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bcuathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=1814\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"1814\">Jawill Davis<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0sparked the drive.<\/p>\n<p>The Wildcats then received a golden opportunity thanks to\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bcuathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=1823\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"1823\">Cameron Rigby<\/a><\/dfn>, who eluded two Rattlers blockers to tackle punter Chris Faddoul shy of the marker on a fake punt.<\/p>\n<p>The quick 32-yard march produced Michael D. Jones run.<\/p>\n<p>Brihm scored two plays later.<\/p>\n<p>Senior safety\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bcuathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=1818\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"1818\">Diquan Richardson<\/a><\/dfn>&#8216;s second interception of the game preserved the victory with a leaping grab in the end zone as the Rattlers threatened with under a minute to play. With BCU featured on SportsCenter&#8217;s &#8220;Geared Up&#8221; segment to begin the day, the Wildcats were able to show off the uniforms in &#8220;victory formation&#8221; fashion as Brihm kneeled for one last time to run out the clock.<\/p>\n<p>Brihm&#8217;s touchdown pass was a 35-yarder to senior tight end and Orlando native\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bcuathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=1876\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"1876\">Ja-Quan Lumas<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0in the first quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez gave BCU, wearing the &#8220;Daytona Nights&#8221; uniforms, a 10-3 lead with a 31-yard field goal with 6:22 left\u00a0in the first half. Last weekend&#8217;s hero,\u00a0<dfn><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bcuathletics.com\/roster.aspx?rp_id=1803\" rel=\"smarttag\" rev=\"1803\">Keavon Mitchell<\/a><\/dfn>, added five catches for 44 yards. And it was Michael D. Jones who led the rushing attack with 39 yards on 13 carries.
