{"id":2293,"date":"2016-05-02T11:21:28","date_gmt":"2016-05-02T11:21:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ampsmagazine.com\/?p=1130"},"modified":"2021-01-16T20:01:16","modified_gmt":"2021-01-16T20:01:16","slug":"chowan-university-wins-ciaa-baseball-championship-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ampsmagazine.com\/?p=2293","title":{"rendered":"Chowan University Wins CIAA Baseball Championship Title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cary, North Carolina (April 30, 2016) \u2013 The Chowan University Hawks came back from opening the with a loss to downing Winston-Salem State University in two games for their first-ever <span class=\"il\">CIAA<\/span> Baseball Championship Title.\u00a0 The Hawks recorded a 12-2 score in game one and pushed through to upset the Rams 7-2 in the second battle.<\/p>\n<p>In the first game, Winston-Salem State and Chowan University started off slow as the Hawks grew their lead scoring a game-high of seven runs in the eighth inning.\u00a0 At the top of the first, Hawks outfielder Connor Arcobasso drilled a line drive which was bobbled by the left fielder, allowing him to make it to second base.\u00a0 Later, teammate Wade Wyatt, Jr. sent the ball up the middle while Arcobasso ran for home.<\/p>\n<p>The Rams came in late, scoring when Landon Steiner hit his second home run of the tournament.\u00a0 At the top of the sixth, Chowan capitalized on a walk, double by Jack Downun, and an error to score three more.
